Lucas Glover during the final round of the 2013 Zurich Classic of New Orleans.Professional golfer Lucas Glover is participating in the Wyndham Championship at any cost, even if that means playing with an injured toe. Glover was forced to withdraw from Wednesday’s pro-am after breaking his middle toe on his daughter’s crib.

However, that did not stop Glover from going into the open-round tee the next day, and now is even more determined to press onward. “He was dead set on playing,” manager Marc Barnhardt said to Golf Channel, “he had to withdraw last year because of his knee and he considers this a home game. He’s determined to play if he can.”

Suffering from a broken toe can be a painful injury to deal with. It is beneficial to be in the care of a doctor who can treat your condition properly. A podiatrist like Dr. Michael Wynn of Foot Care Associates of Texas, P.A. can assess your injury and provide you with the best treatment options for your needs.

What to Know About a Broken Toe

Although most people try to avoid foot trauma such as banging, stubbing, or dropping heavy objects on their feet, the unfortunate fact is that it is a common occurrence. Given the fact that toes are positioned in front of the feet, they typically sustain the brunt of such trauma. When trauma occurs to a toe, the result can be a painful break (fracture). Another type of trauma that can break a toe is repeated activity that places stress on the toe for prolonged periods of time.

Symptoms of a Broken Toe

· throbbing pain
· swelling
· bruising on the skin and toenail
· the inability to move the toe with ease.
· toe appears crooked or disfigured
· tingling or numbness in the toe
· injured person experiences fever or chills throughout their body, and when there is an open, bleeding wound present on the toe.

Generally, a minor toe break will heal without long-term complications, but it is important to discontinue activities that put pressure on the toe. It is best to stay off of the injured toe with the affected foot elevated on pillows. Swelling can be alleviated by placing an ice pack on the broken toe for 15 minutes every two hours then taping the two toes together with medical tape.

Toenail Fungus TreatmentFungal infections can occur anywhere on the feet, but they seem to particularly prefer growing in and around toenails.  While the sight of fungus is troubling, unfortunately foot fungus is quite common.

According to Dr. David Relman, a professor of microbiology and immunology at Stanford University School of Medicine in Palo Alto, California, "They're enclosed in this tight container called the shoe and it gets hot and humid in there, which are the conditions that fungi like." In addition, the study also noted that it would be quite amusing to research people in other cultures who go barefoot more often than we do to see if fungal infections are common for them as well.

There may be steps to avoid getting fungal toenails, but not every step guarantees that this condition will never be a problem.  If you are suffering from fungal toenails you should seek the care of a podiatrist such as Dr. Michael Wynn of Foot Care Associates of Texas, P.A. Dr. Wynn can diagnose your problem as well as provide you with treatment options.

Toenail Fungus Treatment

Toenail fungus is a problem which affects many people and is hard to get rid of. Fortunately, there are several methods to go about treating toenail fungus.

Antibiotics & Treatments

Lamisil – is the most commonly effective treatment for toenail fungus. It is available as an antibiotic Terbinafine tablet and cream. Terbinafine is a chemical component which kills fungal growth on the body.  Applying regular doses will gradually kill the fungal growth. It is important to keep the area clean and air free.

Sandals or open toed shoes – wearing these will allow air movement and help keep feet dry. They also expose your feet to light, which fungus cannot tolerate. Socks with moisture wicking material also help as well

Alternative Treatments

Those who are skeptical or unsure of using Lamisil containing terbinafine may consider the following:

- Alcohol, tea tree oil, hydrogen peroxide, or Vicks VapoRub will help as well.

There are always surgical procedures that are available for toenail fungus. Some people would like immediate quick removal of toenail fungus. Surgeons will be able to cut through and remove the growth using laser surgery. It is important not to try and remove it yourself. Once removed, your old shoes will need to be replaced to avoid reinfection.

The club’s official website stating:  “Club doctors have contacted the Spanish FA to recommend that the player should not join the national squad for the friendly against Ecuador so that he can undergo treatment in Barcelona”. The 26 year old midfielder has scored an impressive 11 times in his 32 league appearances last season, and is in a race against time to recover for the title defense against Levante.

Facing such an injury can be daunting, but with proper care returning to sports and activities is not impossible. Getting Back into Sports after Foot and Ankle Injuries

Sprained ankles are a frustrating and painful ordeal many athletes go through. Recovery from a sprained ankle usually involves the RICE method. This includes:

  • Rest
  • Ice
  • Compression
  • Elevation

In addition, athletes should consider wearing an ankle brace in order to keep the ankle stabilized and alleviate any pain as it heals.

Stress fractures that occur in the foot and ankle come in two types. This includes stable and displaced. Stable stress fractures do not consist of any shifting in bone alignment while displaced stress fractures involve bone ends that do not line up.

Alex Rios left Tuesday's game due to a foot injury.MLB player Alex Rios was forced to make an exit during the eighth inning against the Indians after injuring his foot. Rios, who is said to have suffered a foot contusion, walked very gingerly off the field during mid-at-bat.

Although Rios could be able to play as soon as Wednesday, teams may be hesitant on adding the outfielder given the possibility of having a lingering in jury. Rumors involving Rios being traded has been going around since July although after Tuesday night, these rumors may just be squashed.

It is important that the right shoes are worn for protection and guard against pain and discomfort. A podiatrist like Dr. Michael Wynn of Foot Care Associates of Texas, P.A. can make recommendations on how to care and find shoes that fit you, as well as help you with any foot pain you might have experienced from wearing ill-fitting footwear.

Working On Your Feet

Long periods of standing often times lead to pain and discomfort around the feet. Every day the body undergoes a series of stresses, especially during work. To minimize these stresses on your feet, better shoe choices and proper posture will significantly help.

Better Choices

A Negative Heel

· This is where the heel is slightly lower than the ball of the foot.

Going Barefoot

· Having your feet crammed into shoes for long periods of time increases pressure. Giving your feet some exposure to air and walking barefoot helps tremendously.

Exercise Your Feet

· A foot workout helps correct movements and stimulates the blood flow and muscles of the feet.

Foot Care

Spending a majority of the time on your feet will most likely trigger pain; even more so if you suffer from poor circulation.  Proper footwear and appropriate stretching will alleviate pain and prevent further issues. When your feet hurt, it is best to take care of them right away.
